Esteban Gutierrez svetta nelle prove libere

Ottimo inizio di weekend per l'attuale leader del campionato Esteban Gutierrez, che fa valere la sua esperienza su questo tracciato (ci ha corso con la Formula Bmw la scorsa stagione) e rifila quasi tre decimi al comagno di squadra e rivale per il campionato Alexander Rossi. Terza posizione per Dean Smith, davanti di soli 3 centesimi a Roberto Merhi (al debutto in Gp3 con la Atech) e di 4 a James jakes. Sesta posizione per Michael Christensen, ultimo di quelli riusciti a scendere sotto il muro dei due minuti. Solo sedicesimo Mirko Bortolotti, che nella parte finale della sessione si è anche fermato in mezzo al rettilineo principale del cittadino spagnolo, costringendo i commissari ad intervenire per spostare la sua vettura.
