A self-driving single-seater...made in Motor Valley - special content

Let's get to know the protagonists of the Bosch web series "DRIVERLESS". Here's how students from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia created an autonomous driving prototype suitable for competing in the Formula SAE championship.

Formula SAE should be seen as a starting point, rather than an achievement. In this international competition, founded in 1981, the most prestigious universities in the world, with their relevant faculties, are called upon to design, build and field on the racetrack prototypes that will compete in static and dynamic tests and will be subsequently evaluated by a jury of selected experts.

Being a competitive gym in a sector that is undergoing unprecedented changes in its history, Formula SAE has recently introduced a category dedicated to self-driving vehicles. Here, participants get to know all the challenges, doubts and obstacles that industry players are experiencing - obviously, on a different scale - having to find new solutions and think "out of the box" to solve problems that, a few years ago, were not even quantifiable.

In recent weeks, we have told you about the adventure and the ups and downs of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia students from a favored standpoint through the Bosch DRIVERLESS web-series, where we have followed the evolution of their project step by step.

Now the time has come to tell you from another perspective what they have achieved and the goals they have reached, obviously listening to the direct statements of the protagonists and partners who have supported them, such as Bosch and Power On.
